The Old Spaghetti Factory

Absher constructed this $1.4M tenant improvement involved for the Old Spaghetti Factory in preparation for its move from its original Jefferson Avenue location into Pacific Plaza, which Absher built in 2009. The 9,676 SF space was converted from its former use as a grocery store. Construction included HVAC and electrical upgrades, installation of a grease interceptor to accommodate the commercial kitchen, a new landing and ramp for ADA access, new ingress/egress access at the back of the facility, and installation of new partitions, a bar, acoustical ceiling and flooring.

The original location of The Old Spaghetti Factory from 1971 to 2016 was in the historic Tacoma Biscuit and Candy Company building on Jefferson Avenue. To provide the look and feel of an older building within the modern Pacific Plaza space, Absher installed new replica doors and tin ceilings and re-installed the numerous unique chandeliers and lighting fixtures from the original location. Two stained glass windows were added to the large banquet room, with light boxes installed behind each one to give the illusion of being on the exterior, though the space is actually below Commerce Street level. The most iconic fixture of the original location, however, was the old Tacoma Power & Co. trolley that had been converted to a seating/dining feature. Absher coordinated the trolley’s move via a flat-bed truck from the old location to its new home on Pacific Avenue, where it arrived safely and was reinstalled as the finishing touch, making the new location feel like home for the Old Spaghetti Factory.
